[How to] Clean Your Cast-Iron Cookware – Pictorial

You may have been handed your grandmother’s cast iron (yes, they DO last that long), or yo may be brand new to the game.

In either case, you’ll need to know that cast-iron cookware isn’t your run of the mill. Unlike the other pans, your cast iron cookware is pretty darn near indestructible, simple to use, and excellent for searing in flavor and sautéing meats and veggies.  In order preserve these family gems, you’ll want to know a couple of things.

Cast iron cookware, by the letter of the law, is NOT non-stick like say teflon coated pans.  However with the right care your pan can function without concerns of sticking, transition seamlessly to the oven, and last a lifetime.

How to Find Your Fitness Roadmap

Successfully navigating from Point A to Point B typically requires someone to ask two critical questions: Where are we now (point A)? Where do we want to be (point B)? Once we know the answers to these two questions, we can decide on the best route. Doing so without these answers is wasted effort.

The same is true of our fitness journey. Before we can begin to plan our path – the workouts and nutrition habits – we must first know where we are and where we want to be. Seems simple, right?

In and around 2010, I was a regular on the red carpet for movie premiers at the Ziegfeld theater in New York.  I don’t want to make this sound like more than it was.  I was in a position to interview celebrities as they made their way down the carpet, holding a microphone, on video.  The way these things work, however, the first 5 stops on the interview trough are outlets like CNN, The Today Show, E!, Extra, Huffington Post, The New York Times, etc.  Once you get down to my location let’s just say the niches get pretty obscure.

I am now, what you may call, and I MAY have referred to in my early 20s as a “health nut.” It’s OK, I take no offense to it, even if the jab is from my former self. I’ve since recanted and I’ve found the enjoyment of training. Check out Hard-Gainer, Pescatarian, Kate’s E4A21 Progress

Kate is a pescatarian, which means that she prefers to only eat fish as her source of animal-based protein.

She’s also a hard gainer, which means that she’s tried in the past to gain lean mass, but has had a hard time making progress.  This isn’t to be confused with not being able to gain body fat, that’s not the goal.

Part of the difficulty that Kate, and other hard-gainers like her, faces can be attributed to genetics, but those can be often overcome with dietary changes and training adjustments.

Enter “E4A21,” the Eating For Abs 21-day fat loss challenge.  It introduces simple yet firm dietary guidelines, daily training that are designed to promote fat loss through healthy living.  Unlike crash diets through which one might lose weight through starving themselves, or eating rice cakes and ice cubes (who knows what people really eat on those diets), most people find themselves eating more food during their time in the challenge.

Alexandra’s Eating For Abs Experience – 50 lb body recomposition

Alexandra joined us January of this year, ready to take on change via The Ultimate Nutrition Course.

She faced challenges, as we all do, some common, and some less so. For one she is a shift worker, saving lives nightly in Boston, as an EMT. Night shifts = tough getting sleep, which is one of the habits we work on in the course. Also, she shares the kitchen with other adults that don’t share her health and fat loss goals, so she doesn’t have as much control over what foods are around. All this adds up to her being a regular person, just like you and me.

The key to Drea’s progress to date (230lbs to 180lbs and she’s still very much at it) isn’t that she worked extra hard in the gym, or did some additional hardcore dieting. The key to her progress is that she stayed engaged in what was happening in the course at the moment, not skipping ahead or looking for more to do. Our first service was 1-on-1 coaching.  One client at a time, one habit at a time, changing lives. We’ve worked with Olympians, National champions, NCAA teams, world record holders and stay at home moms.  It’s STILL an incredible service, through which people achieve incredible progress.

The next service we rolled out was The Ultimate Nutrition Course which is a huge deal because the group nature of the course allows us to take all of the life changing lessons we teach in the 1-on-1 practice and offer them to more people, more affordably. The ability to help more people achieve their goals is wildly rewarding, as are the relationships we build along the way.

Tell me about your background. Where are you from, what did you study, and what do you do?
I came to New York City from Florida after graduating from Syracuse University with a Theatre Degree in 2001. After graduating and moving to New York, I pursued a career in acting and became a waitress at a wonderful little Swedish restaurant called Ulrika’s. In 2002, i dropped a significant amount of weight (30 pounds off of a 240 pounds frame) and i loved working out so much and the feeling that it gave me that i got my personal training certification. I’ve been on a weight loss journey for YEARS.

I did Weight Watchers TWICE. Twice because you think you got it down and don’t need calculations and points anymore and can do it by yourself, but “eyeing it” only leads to indulgence and eventually you fall back into your old routine.

Next, I tried working out and eating clean. I saw some weight loss, but not enough. I realized that I must not be eating “clean”. I almost gave up, then my wife showed me your video. I always wanted a nutrition coach, but I always heard they were expensive. However, your video was hilarious (the high pitched voice), inexpensive, and you were approachable. So, I took a chance and I’m so glad I did.

Taj and familyThe incremental lesson approach is GENIUS! Every lesson became a habit. I didn’t even feel like I was trying. Plus, I was eating WAY more food than I was used to and I LOVE FOOD! LOL The weight just melted and I finally saw my abs!

I have so much more energy during my workouts and life in general. The most shocking thing was when my doctor told me I didn’t have to be on my cholesterol and hypertensive medications anymore!

Now I’m a semi-chef and have awesome knife skills! I literally cook 90% of all my food. I prepare for the week all my meals and snacks, but if I can’t, I feel confident in choosing delicious and nutrient dense foods when on the run.

Thank you Coach Be for this genius course. I never thought it was possible to feel this way and understand eating “clean”.

You guys changed my life… LITERALLY.
